Leather Phylacteries with long leather straps
The purpose which the phylacteries served, was to remind the wearers to keep the laws which GOD gave to the Jews by the hand of Moses on Mt. Siani.
Each square box was to be secured by the long strap to the Forehead. The other box was affixed to the arm and the strap wrapped seven times around. The scriptures contained in the boxes were essential laws for the Jews. They were, Exodus 13:1-10, 13:11-16. Also Deuteronomy 6:4-9, 11:13-21.
Jesus denounced those Jews who were excessivly large phylactaries to draw attention to their supposed piety, when in reality they were breakers of the Law. (See Matther 23:1-5)
