The Gutenberg Printing Press, miniature edition
It was on a printing press such as this that Johan Gutenberg produced the very first book printed in the western world. World famous today, the Gutenberg Bible, as it is best known by, was a truly remarkable acheivment by this lone inventor. Printing did away, to a large extent, with the need for skilled copyists. With this invention, thousands of books, all identical, could be produced in a fraction of the time it took to produce a single hand written copy.
Although Korea is known to have used a similar process centuries before, yet it did not have any influence on the world at large as has the Gutenberg achievment.
